Apple iOS Developer Enrollment
Quite funny actually. After a while of sendin requests and documentation to the Apple Developer Support, i finally had a call from the united states on our mailbox, telling me to call Apple back on a german (free) number. I think you all know the ‘legal notice’ when calling support hotlines of big companies, letting you know that they ‘might’ record your call for reasons of ‘quality assurance’, and that you may disagree at the beginning of the actual conversation. Apple instead left me with a simple ‘Your Phone call might be recorded for reasons of quality assurance’. No chance to disagree? Okay, well Apple is about ‘agreeing’ to things, not about disagreeing. So what!
So, well - by not hanging up and deciding for me and my company to never interact with any apple services ever again, i think i agreed.. and ended up being on hold for a few moments, listening to ‘the police’ with sting singing the quite fitting lines ‘every move you make, i’ll be watching you’. Designated irony, or simply the personal music taste of whatever apple employee?
I don’t know. Next thing happening was finally an ‘Apple Advisor’ answering my call in a ‘friendly but firm’ way: “Apple Developer Support, Good Day, could you please tell me your full name and phone number?” - Erm, ookay… But eventually i was about to find out that they decided to agree our application as an ios developing company, and that after ‘agreeing to their terms and conditions, which will be sent to be by email the next days’ there is nothing in the way anymore.
Phew. Great Apple allows us to develop Iphone Apps! I’m actually really glad :)
Develop Iphone Apps for free 1
I just asked myself and thus decided to ask apple
does apple really expect interested developers to buy a mac and a iphone or is there any program, how we possible could train our team in iphone development, without loosing ~10,000 dollar ?
Will post the answer here.
One more reason to have a closer look at SproutCore?
I just read Yehuda Katzs blog article, talking about his past and future work on open source web technologies. Besides this Katz describes his vision of an open source Framework for the client-side part of rich web applications, not missing a glance at iphone, android, ipad and other mobile challenges for webdevelopers. After Charles Jolley announced in his blog, that he leaves apple to found a company focussing on the development of the Javascript Framework SproutCore Katz saw his vision on such framework mirrored, and well, now he joined Charles company Strobe Inc. and helps carrying on SproutCore.
If you’re interested in SproutCore maybe also checkout Wikipedia, and don’t miss to have a look at Demo Applications, such as this Task List Application build with SproutCore(User ‘guest’, no password)
Katz also mentions that he intents to use Rails, especially with the upcoming features of Rails 3.1, as a Backend for his projects, and that he will continue to work on Rails for Engine Yard.
